After suffering a DNF in the recent 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans, factory backed Yamaha Austria Racing Team bounced back this weekend with a stunning victory at the 8 Hours of Slovakiaring despite ever changing weather conditions.
Hosting it’s first ever FIM Endurance World Championship race in 2017, the Slovakiaring Circuit has quickly established itself as a firm favourite with both fans and teams alike in the series.
Based to the east of Bratislava, the 6km circuit is fast and flowing, and makes for some exciting racing as riders try to maintain top speed from the very first to the very last lap.
In the early stages of the race YART battled with reigning champions and fellow Bridgestone runners FCC TSR Honda, plus the Honda Endurance Racing squad.
However, they were able to pull out an impressive lead by the middle stages, to finish a lap ahead of their closest challengers. A brake problem had put an end to FCC TSR Honda’s hopes of a podium spot, but a new record lap of 2:03.938 from Mike Di Meglio encapsulated the team’s determination to log a good result, as they fought back from last place to take 3rd at the flag.
Next month the penultimate race will take place at Oschersleben in Germany, with YART and FCC TSR sitting in 4th and 5th place in the championship after some difficulties earlier in the season.
