Earlier this year, Metzeler launched their new MC360 reversible motocross tyre to the world in some style, on the side of a South American volcano!
In order to test the versatility and durability of their new rubber, the German manufacturer set out to claim three world records in one single ride.
The team for this record expedition was composed of Salvo Pennisi, Metzeler’s Head of Testing Department, Carlo Fiorani, Honda’s Head of Racing Communications, the industry journalists Francesco Catanese and Karsten Schwers, and Fabio Mossini, the enduro champion who now forms part of the Honda Sud America team.
Climbing the Nevado Ojos del Salado volcano, at the border between Argentina and Chile, they group set the following world records:
- From zero to 5900 metres above the sea level in less than 24 hours
- 5960 metres as maximum height for a twin-cylinder motorcycle
- 5977 metres as maximum height reached with a motorcycle in less than 24 hours
