Michelin sponsored road racer Daley Mathison took his first ever victory at Oliver’s Mount recently, and then followed it up with another one to round off a great weekend!
Having mgot married just days before the Spring Cup, Mathison was in action against some of the biggest names in the business including Guy Martin, Dean Harrison and Ivan Lintin. Daley was competing on board his Hol-Taj Suzuki GSX-600, and the conditions were very challenging, with heavy rain and standing water on the circuit. Conditions were so bad that some races were even reduced from 8 laps to 6.
Relying on his Michelin Power Rain tyres and riding with great maturity, he took the lead in both the Junior A Leg 2 race and the Spring Cup A Leg 2 race on the Sunday.
As the first meeting on the road race calendar, the Spring Cup is usually held on a single day. However, this year it was extended to two days in order to give riders more opportunity to gain qualifying signatures for the big international races. The 2.43 natural circuit is tight and twisting, and puts riders skills to the test with it’s technical layout.
Daley said: “I’m absolutely ecstatic with my performance and results, especially on Sunday. Sunday was my wife’s birthday, and the Spring Cup was just days after our wedding – making it a very memorable race meeting. The Michelin Power Rain tyres I used performed superbly in the challenging conditions and it was the confidence they gave me in their consistent and predictable performance that allowed me win against international competitors riding the sport’s most highly-specified machinery.”
