Despite overnight rain leaving a number of tricky and damp areas on the famous 37.75 mile mountain circuit the Supersport TT race saw some thrilling, fast paced action as Metzeler rider Gary Johnson and Bruce Anstey fought it out for the win on the Isle of Man.
As the fastest rider in practice Lincolnshire based Gary Johnson went into the four lap race as one of the favourites and led from the very start, holding a narrow lead ahead of Kiwi Bruce Anstey who had just become the fastest man to ever lap the TT course. Having built up a 2.5 second gap ahead of Anstey, Gary fell victim to a slow pit stop which saw him overtaken.
Keeping his head down, Gary regained to lead just in time for Anstey to put in a determined charge which saw the gap come down to just 0.1s between the two riders on the final lap. As the lap progressed conditions started to worsen over the mountain as rain began to fall in places, but Johnson kept his cool in order to secure his second TT victory and a first win for Triumph since 2003.
Yesterday also saw the tragic death of 65 year old TT rider Bob Price who first competed in the TT in 1992 and all the staff at Cambrian Tyres would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Bob at this difficult time.
