Avon Storm 3D X-M Kawasaki Ninja Test

Kawasaki Ninja 1000 Tyres Avon Storm 3D X-M The Avon Storm 3D X-M is the latest sport touring offering from the British based motorcycle tyre manufacturer.

With the range expanded to cover a total of 16 sizes in 2014 the tyre boasts extended mileage, improvements in wet grip and 3D sipe technology which limits tread flex whilst also giving fast warm up times. We were recently invited to the UK launch where the tyre was very well received by those who attended and you can see our review here, but they tyre is also being well received elsewhere in the world including the USA where Sport Rider Magazine recently took a set on a 4000 mile test on their long term Kawasaki Ninja 1000.

The test included all kinds of riding from urban traffic to carving through canyons as well as a number of long mileage blasts down the highways of America, really putting the new Avon through its paces, and straight away the riders reported improved handling over the stock original equipment tyres, with the magazine highlighting the “neutral yet quick steering” at any lean angle.

Covering 4000 miles doesn’t only give you a range of types or riding, it also gives a rider a wide range of surface types to negotiate and the tester commented that “steering precision was very good even over imperfect pavement” on less well maintained stretches of tarmac, whilst traction and overall wet grip were also noticeably improved once the Avon had been fitted.

The mileage claims also appear to be holding true, with the rider reporting that “the Avons were working and looking just fine at the 4,000 mile mark. And there was no sign of flat spotting from extended highway sojourns” and we also look forward to seeing the results of our own in house long term test this year, which we will report on throughout the riding season!

The Avon Storm 3D X-M along with a fully comprehensive range of other high quality Avon two wheel products are all available from Cambrian Tyres, the UK’s biggest and best independent trade only motorcycle tyre distributor.
