Bridgestone S22 Tops Annual Motorrad Test

Bridgestone S22 Motorrad winner

Based on the feedback we’ve been getting from customers, we already had an inkling that Bridgestone’s new Battlax S22 would do pretty well in this year’s hypersport tyre test by Motorrad, which is seen as the leading independent test in the motorcycle tyre industry.

As it turns out, we were right!

We can now confirm that the Battlax S22 has been announced as the out-right winner of the Motorrad test, finishing ahead of five leading competitor products.

Other tyres tested were as follows:

  • Continental ContiSportAttack 3
  • Michelin Power RS (RS+ rear)
  • Metzeler Sportec M7 RR
  • Dunlop SportSmart Mk 3
  • Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II

For the sake of comparison, it’s worth noting that Pirelli’s direct competitor product in this class is really the Diablo Rosso III, whereas the Diablo Rosso Corsa II sits in a slightly sportier bracket aimed at riders who do a balance of road and track riding, one step down from the Supercorsa SP.

All tyres were tested on the very latest Yamaha YZF-R1 in both wet and dry conditions where they were scored on various aspects of their performance, and you can read the test in full here.

Alternatively, you can read the summary given by the magazine about the test winning Battlax S22 below.

Bridgestone Battlax S22

Highway/Sport:

“The Japanese usually provide the most stable tyres in our tests, and the same is true of this new model from Bridgestone. The S22 takes the best from the previous generation (S20/S21) while setting new benchmarks with its incredible handling. Those who enjoy sporty riding (whether in their own local area or during race training) will love the razor-sharp precision that lets them corner the bike on the tightest lines. All this means that the S22 has earned its position as king of the highway.”

Wet Test:

“The old S21 offered impressive grip in the wet coupled with predictable threshold behaviour. The S22 picks up where its predecessor left off and completes our test with no real slip-ups. Its reserves of grip while leaning are slightly below those if its competitors, but this isn’t much of a problem.”

Summary:

“An excellent performance from the Japanese brand’s latest sports tyres. The S 22 races to the front of the pack in this test thanks to its excellent driving performance on the highway. Even in the rain, it stays ahead.”
