BMW’s R1200R is the Bavarian firm’s sporty roadster, capable of tackling a long summer tour or the daily commute.
The latest model now features BMW’s latest water-cooled boxer engine which puts out a claimed 125bhp to give the bike plenty of grunt too.
The independently owned BMW Motorcycle Magazine have recently finished putting around 12,500 miles on their long term testing steed, working their way through two sets of Metzeler tyres in the process.
A great all-round bike needs versatile rubber, and the magazine tested Metzeler’s 2nd line Roadtec Z8 and flagship Roadtec 01 sport touring tyres.

“As original equipment rubber straight from BMW. Proven sport touring rubber with perfect riding behaviour and high levels of grip, dry and wet.
Exceptionally stable performance, even for two-up riding and/or with luggage.
Rear tyre reached wear limit after 6,200 miles (10,000 km), still 3mm left in the front.
Now a little cheaper, as it is the old version.”
“The current standard in the field of sport touring.
It has taken all the strengths of the Z8 and surpassed them in some areas, especially the surprisingly good wet grip.
In addition, can be more agile and offers better ‘lean feel’ when taking the curves.
