In this week’s Motorcycle News, our very own Bryn Phillips has been helping one reader who was looking for some price conscious replacement tyres which would offer improved wet weather grip on the roads.
Triumph’s superb sportsbike comes fitted with Pirelli Supercorsa SP tyres as standard, a road compounded version of their popular Supercorsa SC track tyre. Although known for their excellent outright dry grip and instantly recognisable semi-slick appearance, they are not ideal for use in the wet.
Bryn suggested looking at a number of 2nd generation sport touring tyres, which still continue to offer excellent performance without carrying the premium price tag of the very latest rubber.
Suitable options for consideration include:
- Bridgestone Battlax BT-023
- Continental ContiRoadAttack 2
- Dunlop RoadSmart II
- Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interact
- Michelin Pilot Road 3
The Bridgestone is probably the best all-round option of the five, although the Continental and Metzeler will most likely offer the best feel, with Continental’s handling often on the sportier side of touring.
In terms of wet grip, the Michelin and the Metzeler would be marginally better, but we’re not talking big differences.
All of the above options would give respectable all-round performance, even for brisk touring.
