So just what is the Continental ‘Black Chili’ compound?
‘Black Chili’ utilises carbon nano particles, which allow Continental to manufacture a softer compound on any given tyre without affecting the tyres durability.
As each of the carbon nano particles is only one tenth of the size of a normal carbon particle, it means that Continental tyres using the technology are covered in more individual points of contact between the contact patch and the road to offer improved grip, which amongst other things leads to reduced braking distances.
The carbon nano particles are more tightly bound together which increases the strength of the compound, which in turn ensures that the wear rate of the tyre is not compromised in any way.
