Riding around the world on a motorcycle in 80 days doesn’t sound like much of a challenge – especially when you consider some of the endurance riders and record breakers who’ve done it in less than a month.
However, this challenge is a little bit different – it’s being done on an electric motorcycle.
The STORM Pulse was developed by the Eindhoven University of Technology and is the world’s first long-distance electric motorcycle with a claimed range of 380 kilometres per charge.
In 2016 a team of students who have worked on the project will be riding the bike around the world in 80 days to prove just how far electric motorcycle technology has come in such a short space of time.
Described as the Tesla of the motorcycle world, the STORM Pulse uses an innovative modular battery pack which allows the rider to swap batteries in a matter of minutes. For shorter journeys the rider can opt to use only part of the battery pack, reducing the weight of the bike and making it easier to steer.
With a route of more than 26,000 kilometres ahead of them across Europe, Asia and North America the team has selected the new Dunlop RoadSmart III as their tyre of choice for the trip with it’s impressive claims of increased durability over it’s predecessor.
