Hitachi Construction Machinery Revo KTM rider Shaun Simpson claimed his second FIM MXGP victory of 2015 with an excellent performance in the Netherlands at Assen last weekend.
A first and third place gave the Dunlop shod rider an overall event win, and moved him up to fourth place in the standings for 2015, just behind Dunlop backed HRC riders Gautier Paulin and Evgeny Bobryshev.
The two HRC factory riders followed Simpson across the line in the first moto, giving Dunlop a 1-2-3 finish on the podium in the premier class. Bobryshev led a significant part of the second moto before mistake saw him drop back to 5th, with Paulin fighting his way up to 4th, just behind Simpson.
The fantastic sand track took just four days to put together on the site of the famous Assen TT circuit, and Dunlop riders were well prepared with a Geomax MX-32 on the front of their bikes, and an Geomax MX-11 sand tyre on the year to power them through.
In the MX2 class Dunlop riders took five of the top ten places, Brent Van Doninck the highest finisher with a well earned third. In the EMX 250 class Damon Graulus won both his races to move up to 2nd place in the championship, whilst in the Honda 150 European Championship Emil Weckman took the series title in style with an emphatic double win, again on Dunlop motocross tyres.
Eddy Seel, Dunlop MX Race Coordinator commented on their successful weekend at Assen:
“It was another great weekend for Dunlop. Finishing 1-2-3 in the first race was fantastic and we could very easily have had two or more riders on the overall podium. Shaun rode very well again and deserved his win and it’s good to see Gautier and Bobby consolidating their positions in the Championship and of course to now have three riders in the top four. It was great to see Damon win both races and finish the season in second place. It was a difficult track so all the points were well earned. It was a particularly challenging track for the young riders in EMX150 and Emil’s double win there shows that he is a worthy champion.”
