Shane Byrne Breaks Lap Record At Snetterton

BSB Snetterton Testing Lap Record Shane ByrneThe BSB riders were recently out testing again before the start of the season with the likes of Shane Byrne and Josh Brooks taking the opportunity along with their respective teams to get some final data before the championship starts at Brands Hatch next weekend.

Three time BSB Champion Shane Byrne waited until his final lap on day two to beat his own lap record, which he set at Snetterton in 2011 on a ‘full’ electronics Superbike prior to the latest BSB regulations.

His previous record had stood at 1:48.023 but Shakey managed to break the one minute 48 second barrier by putting in a very impressive 1:47.955 on the latest 17″ Pirelli Diablo Superbike tyres fitted to the ‘unrestricted electronics’ Superbike, a potentially ominous sign to other challengers in this years field as he aims for an unprecedented 4th BSB title. Second fastest was Ducati rider Jakub Smrz, who was more than half a second off the pace of Byrne.

Following the test Byrne said “This test was very important for us, there has been a few changes to the bike and of course what’s different from last year has been the 17 inch tyres which really suit my riding style, giving me a lot more confidence in the front.”
