Despite putting in excess of 9,000 miles on his Kawasaki Versys 650 GT’s original equipment Dunlop’s, MCN’s Adam Child felt it was time for something different on his mid-range tourer test machine.
In this week’s MCN Adam revealed that he’s opted for Metzeler’s top of the range Roadtec 01 sport touring tyre as a replacement.
After the first few miles on the new rubber, Adam said:
“They’re a little bit more expensive than competitors like Bridgestone’s T30 EVO and the Michelin Pilot Road 4, but I’ve heard such good things about them that I reckon they are worth the investment, especially as I spend so much time on the bike. It’s not an area I want to scrimp on.
So far I’ve only done a handful of miles on the new rubber but I instantly found that they have transformed the bike. On a fairly budget, everyday bike like the Versys 650, good quality rubber can make a massive difference and it honestly feels like someone’s upgraded the suspension without me knowing.
I’m looking forward to spending a few more miles on the Metzeler’s before the bike has to go back to Kawasaki and especially want to test their wet weather prowess and also just see how long the last.
I’d like to see if they can rival the OE Dunlop’s 9000-mile performance, but I doubt I’m going to get that many miles in.”
