Thousands of bike fans’ memories are being brought back to life courtesy of one of the greatest racers of all time, his all-conquering classic bike and a set of premium Battlax R10 Racing tyres from Bridgestone – in a 30th anniversary tribute to remember.
Freddie Spencer, the only man to win both the 500cc and 250cc world championships in the same season, way back in 1985, is riding on a RS500 bike for a calendar of Parade events for Classic GP Race Bikes, along with a RS250, which is an accurate replica of his 1985 Championship winning factory RS250RW.
The awe-inspiring vision of the American rider on his iconic machine has been turned into reality by Leeds based biking fanatic Richard Grantham, whose business restores classic race bikes of yesteryear and brings them back to life.
And when he was in need of a set of race tyres to do justice to the Honda, Rich settled on a set of Bridgestone Battlax R10 Racing tyres from local dealer Bike Tyres Leeds.
Freddie has already ridden on the tyres at the Paul Ricard circuit in France and returned a glowing endorsement for the product, as he prepares to line up more classic races around Europe, including Donington.
The American legend said: “The R10 spec tyres provide the feel, stability, predictability and trust that I need and appreciate when riding my classic high performance GP bike around circuits from Paul Ricard to Donington Park. It’s a great tyre.”
Richard Grantham said that the vision of Freddie on one of his bikes was a dream come true, causing him to pinch himself to ensure it was actually happening.
“I am a huge bike fan and grew up watching Freddie make history back in 1985. To think of him riding on a bike we have brought back to the track 30 years later is incredible.
“The main difference in the set-up is the tyres. Bridgestone’s R10s are a special tyre and the performance of the Honda NS500 is now so much more assured as a result. They would certainly have shaved off some seconds back in 1985.”
Andrew Whitehead, Bridgestone UK Sales Manager for two-wheel said: “It is something of a coup for us to have the Bridgestone name alongside such an iconic machine.
“The work that Richard and his Engineering Technical Development company has done with Freddie’s bike – and so many others – is incredible and we were delighted to provide some tyres to add the final component to the set-up.”
“It is intriguing to see how our MotoGP™ inspired race tyres interact with a modern classic machine like this. It is an opportunity we didn’t want to pass up.”
The Battlax R10 Racing used revolutionary construction and compound technologies that have combined to allow riders to power in, through and out of corners like never before.
Bridgestone’s most advanced MotoGP™ technology has played a huge role in the tyre design, which claims to push the bounds of your bike and the track.
Available to the UK trade from Cambrian Tyres, the UK’s number one distributor of Bridgestone motorcycle and scooter tyres, you can fin out more about the Battlax R10 Racing here.
