Just when we thought the supersport class may be coming to an end, Yamaha went and announced a brand new YZF-R6 for 2017 to breathe new live into a market that is heavily hampered by new Euro 4 regulations.
MCN’s Adam Child has put more than 4,000 miles on one so far this year, riding it on both road and track.
In that time he’s tested a set of Pirelli and Metzeler tyres, and in their 23rd August edition he had this to say:
Pirelli Diablo Rosso III
“The Pirellis have lasted 3686 miles, they didn’t need replacing and they still had plenty of life left in them, but I wanted something with more grip on track.
They’ve worn evenly, and haven’t squared off despite the high motorway miles.
They warm up quickly, offer great feedback and they’re good in the wet.”
The Rosso III is Pirelli’s latest hypersport tyre, which boasts excellent dry and wet grip for sporty road riding.

Metzeler Racetec RR K3
“The road-legal Metzelers are hugely impressive on track, they warm up quickly and offer great feedback.
They are almost as good as a true race tyre – when it comes to grip and stability.
I’ve done 400 road miles so far and all in the dry.
I’ve heard good things about longevity, but let’s see how long these track tyres last on the road.”
The Racetec RR K3 is Metzeler’s road-legal version of their supersport & superstock race tyre with a more versatile compound which does not require warmers.
