Last week saw the start of the 2014 road racing season, with riders from around the world descending upon Northern Ireland to compete in the various classes at the famous ‘Triangle’ circuit.
With mixed conditions throughout the week, riders across all classes faced some difficult decisions in terms of tyre choice as the circuit changed from wet to dry.
The weather however didn’t stop riders from putting in some very quick lap times, with Josh Brookes setting a new circuit record of 122.958mph in the Superbike class. With wins for Alistair Seeley, and brothers William and Michael Dunlop the German tyre manufacturer Metzeler saw five wins from six claimed on their tyres over the course of the week.
Events were overshadowed however by the horrific incident involving a favourite of the paddock, Simon Andrews. Simon was airlifted to Belfast following a serious accident and sadly passed away in hospital as a result of the injuries he sustained. The whole team at Cambrian Tyres would like to pass on our sincere condolences to both family and friends of Simon at this very sad and difficult time. He will be sorely missed.
