On Sunday, the 3rd round of the EMRA club championships headed for the Mallory Park circuit with Dilligaf Racing rider Steve Moody taking on the skillful 2013 Formula 600 champion Jon Skelson in the 2014 EMRA pre-injection championship, with both races taking place on the Sunday.
The weather was excellent for everyone as they arrived on the Saturday, and that thankfully carried over in to the Sunday as the temperatures picked up in the morning as riders began to prepare themselves for the day ahead. In the qualifying session Steve took pole position on his Honda CBR600fx shod with ContiRaceAttack Comp street legal race tyres posting a time of 57:501 on the 1.3 mile Leicestershire track. The ideal position to maintain his 100% winning start to the season and aim for maximum points from race one!
Steve’s first race of the day saw him sitting at the front of the grid, with Skelson in 3rd. Jon Skelson was fastest off the line and took the lead from the start but it wasn’t long before Steve snatched it back with a classy overtaking move on lap two at Edwina’s. From then on he steadily built up his lead with some impressive riding, setting a fastest race lap with a 56:92 on his 15 year old race bike to finish 5.5 seconds clear of Skelson in 2nd.
As the action packed Sunday came to an end the green flag came down on the final pre-injection race of the day, with Steve and Jon Skelson side by side at the start of the race. Again Skelson got the faster start of the two riders, with Steve hot on the heels of the current champion who seemed determined to win his first race of the 2014 championship. After six exciting laps Steve again took the lead at Edwina’s, getting on the throttle as he stormed away to take another victory with a five second margin. A second win of the day, six wins for the season and maximum points in the championship standings all on ContiRaceAttack Comp street legal race tyres.
A great start to the season for Dilligaf Racing, keep it up Steve and team!
