Dunlop have a brand new tyre joining their motocross ranks – the Geomax MX-53!
Unveiled by the tyre maker during a very successful Motocross of Nations event, the tyre will sit between the existing MX-33 and hard-terrain MX-71.
It will include a number of exciting new and existing technologies, including their Advanced Apex Design which has already been employed on the Geomax MX-33. It helps to deliver superior shock absorption alongside a smoother ride and firmer feel, without adding any weight penalties to the tyre.
During internal testing, the new Geomax MX-53 was shown to offer excellent performance gains over the MX-52 on hard terrain, but even greater gains when riding on intermediate tracks. This is in part down to the innovative new tread design.
A horseshoe-shaped pattern on the front tyre enhances braking performance as the slightly taller claw-like blocks dig into harder terrain. Usually you would expect this to affect stability, but Dunlop has added tie bars between the blocks to provide consistent performance and improve durability.
A distinctive staggered paired block layout on the rear provides traction and improved acceleration – vital for taking that holeshot! Optimal spacing between tread blocks is said to ensure grip on softer terrain whilst maintaining the performance on firmer, hard-packed surfaces. For increased rider confidence at all lean angles, Dunlop’s patented Progressive Cornering Block technology allows each block to flex. This gives more biting edges under heavy cornering loads.

Dunlop’s work on increasing the versatility of MX-53 also meant developing a completely different compound to the MX-52. The advanced compound mix has a high number of molecular polymer particles, resulting in higher strength, meaning more durability by increasing the shear resistance.

A total of six front and eleven rear sizes are planned for the range.
