After an eventful trip across the pond for the previous round in Austin, Texas, the Michelin Motorsport team will be heading back to Europe for the 16th round of the MotoGP World Championship. Here, they will revisit the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Italy. The 2.626 mile circuit is situated on the Adriatic Riviera, and the course itself has a rather technical layout with ten right hand turns and six left hand turns which makes it one of the most intricate on the calendar.
The course is packed with high speed curves and corners, slow turns and a short 0.329 miles straight. This layout puts very specific demands on the front tyres. For this circuit Michelin have chosen to use their Power Slick range, they have been designed to give riders the optimum performance characteristics for this track. With the circuit’s location being near the coast and given the time of the year, the event has led to many wet days in recent years, and with this prospect the Michelin Power Rain tyres will be in the allocation as always. Soft and Medium symmetric fronts and asymmetric Soft and Medium rears, again with the harder right side, will give the riders ultimate grip in the wet in the event of any precipitation.
Speaking about the race weekend, Piero Taramasso, Michelin Two-Wheel Motorsport Manager said:
“At last month’s race here in Misano I was very happy with the performance of the tyres, which was clearly highlighted by the three records which were set during the weekend; all time lap record, race lap record, and the race duration record with a very close finish where first and second places were only three-tenths of a second apart using two different rear compounds – Bagnaia raced with the Soft and Quartararo the Medium.
“We will be bringing the same allocation to this race as last month although the temperatures could be a little lower and there is probably a higher likelihood of some rain. However, I am confident that our slicks and rain tyres will give the riders every opportunity to push to the limits and give the spectators a great weekend of racing whatever the weather”.
The MotoGP track action will commence on Friday 22 October with two Free Practice sessions, and this will be followed on Saturday with two more before the excitement of Qualifying. The Sunday race day will see the premier class riders line up on the grid for the start of the Gran Premio Nolan del Made in Italy e dell’Emilia-Romagna at 14:00 local time.
