Tyre wars may be a thing of the past in many on track race series, but when it comes to road racing they’re still very much in full swing – and the Senior TT is one of the most coveted prizes of them all!
For all their successes in the various other classes including Supersport and Superstock, a Senior TT win has eluded Germany tyre brand Metzeler for more than a decade, but that all changed this year thanks Yorkshireman Dean Harrison.
Harrison came close to Senior victory last year, and was sitting second behind Peter Hickman heading into lap 5 before dramatically taking the lead and pulling away to take his maiden Senior TT win, ending Dunlop Tyres’ 13-year blue-riband winning streak in the process.
Metzeler UK Racing Manager Jason Griffiths commented:
“That was a fantastic result for Dean and the whole Silicone Engineering Kawasaki team. They’ve been a dominant force in recent years and it’s great to see them claim their first Senior TT win and our first Metzeler Racetec RR Slick TT victory in the process.
The Senior win caps a successful week for Metzeler, with Michael Dunlop taking the Lightweight win whilst Dean, James Hillier and Jamie Coward all claimed additional podiums. These come in addition to the trio of wins we secured last month at the North West 200; showcasing the versatility and competitiveness of the Racetec RR range.”
