The KTM 690 Duke is already the world’s most powerful single, and the Austrian firm have now increased output by 7% for 2016.
Many people think singles are a bit lazy, but KTM have transformed this humble piece of engineering in to a real work of art.
The 690 Duke feels smooth and refined, the redline capable of hitting 9000rpm, the engine now producing a respectable 73bhp and a top speed of 120mph.
The bike is also extremely light, close to 30kg lighter than the popular Yamaha MT-07, and also lighter than the Kawasaki Ninja 300 – according to MCN’s Adam Child it “feels like a BMX with an engine.” Using a single allows KTM to make the bike narrow and light, especially in comparison to its competitors.
Launched in Gran Canaria, the bike was at home on the twisty mountain roads as it flicked over from one side to the other reaching “footpeg-scraping angles of lean with ease” according to Child, using the latest Sportec M7 RR hypersport tyres from Metzeler.
