After making the British Championships MX1 podium at Desertmartin over the weekend, Crescent Yamaha’s Jake Shipton was definitely in a buoyant mood coming in to the Patchquick Trophy at Little Silver near Exeter last night.
The track was in top condition, and there were plenty of spectators lining the course as the gate dropped and the 43 rider strong field flew out of the traps for the opening moto.
Shipton made his intentions clear from the word go, as he took maximum points in the opening contest ahead of Luke Hawkins and fellow Bridgestone supported star Elliott Banks-Browne of Geartec Husqvarna.
Banks-Browne would get the best of Shipton in the second moto of the evening to take a brilliant win, but Jake hit back in the third, turning the tables on his rival to take a total of 132 points from a potential 135, with EBB settling for second overall with 127. Elliott’s teammate Luke Burton was also in the thick of the action, taking 5th place ahead of Michael Ellis.
It was an excellent night for tyre manufacturer Bridgestone, with Shipton and Banks-Browne giving them a 1 – 2 on the podium, further testament to the quality and performance of their Battlecross tyre range.
