It’s official – Dean Harrison is now the fastest road racer in the world!
To cap off an already successful Ulster GP 2017, the Yorkshireman beat Ian Hutchinson’s 2016 lap record around Dundrod with a 134.614mph circulation, as well as taking thrilling Superbike victory in the final contest of the weekend.
Harrison had been locked in a battle for supremacy with Tyco BMW’s Dan Kneen, and managed to squeeze the Silicone Engineering Kawasaki past on the hairpin of the final lap to take the win by 0.106s.
Both riders made us of Metzeler’s Racetec RR Slick, giving the German brand a 1 – 2 on the Superbike podium.
Earlier that day, the pair had also taken 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the Superstock contest using the Racetec RR treaded tyres.
Metzeler UK Racing Manager Jason Griffiths said:
“The final race of the day was certainly a fitting end to a fantastic day of racing. Congratulations to Dean Harrison on taking a hard fought and deserved Superbike win but also Dan Kneen deserves recognition for his performance today after his late call up to the Tyco BMW squad. Finally, thanks to Dean, Metzeler retains the outright lap record for the Dundrod Circuit, something which we’re really pleased to be associated with.”
