This year, Pirelli have launched the highly anticipated replacement for their original Rosso Corsa.
The Rosso Corsa II features their first tri-compound rear layout, which we recently looked at in further detail here.
It’s aimed at riders who want performance for both road and track, and sits between the more focused Supercorsa SP V2 and their flagship Diablo Rosso III hypersport tyre for the road.
Fast Bikes recently attended the launch, with editor Bruce Wilson putting Pirelli’s latest hoops through their paces on road and then at the Kylami track in South Africa.
Summing up in their July issue, Bruce says:
“In all we got four 20 minute sessions on the hoops, with the final outing taking place on a wet track. They’d impressed me relentlessly in the dry and that final outing didn’t rain on the parade. They inspired confidence and offered an unexpected capability that made light work of the wet, and allowed you to keep the throttle pinned when crossing the streams running across the track. Lean angle was limited by the slick edges, but you could still get a lick on. This is where they held a big advantage of their track-focused siblings; Supercorsas.
Essentially, they proved themselves to be much more versatile and much harder wearing too. Come the end of the day each of the bikes on test had been subjected to four hours of relentless abuse from the three groups of journos in our horde, but you wouldn’t have told it by looking at them.
They’d held up a treat and looked capable of doing the same again with ease. Ultimately, they delivered on Pirelli’s claim of being the do-it-all wonder tyre for track and road riders, being a slightly detuned, albeit more practical Supercorsa for the masses.”
