The team at Dunlop are celebrating after a sensational weekend of results for their elite motocross riders, who collectively took three major wins on both sides of the Atlantic.
On the other side of the pond, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac dominated round 11 of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Budds Creek. He took wins in both races to take the overall victory and secure his third back-to-back top-class title using Dunlop’s Geomax tyre range.
Back in Europe, both the Women’s World Motocross Championship (WMX) and the FIM World Motocross Championship (MXGP) outright wins both went to riders using Dunlop’s Geomax MX33 tyres at Imola.
In WMX, Courtney Duncan won both races to extend her lead in the championship with just the Turkish Grand Prix remaining on September 8th. The New Zealander stamped her authority on the event from the outset, more than two seconds ahead of the next closest rider in practice. In the opening moto, Duncan recovered from an incident in the early stages to close in on the leader by more than two seconds a lap. Eventually she surged into the race lead, to confirm her status as the title favourite and claim victory. She repeated the result in race two with a more straightforward run to a clear win.
In MXGP, Dutchman Glenn Coldenhoff was the pacesetter in both races as the Standing Construct KTM rider reigned supreme to win for the first time in over three years. He won both Imola races to take the overall victory. His win continued the excellent run of results for Standing Construct KTM following a win by team-mate Max Anstie in one of the heats at the Belgian GP earlier this month.
Standing Construct KTM made the switch to Dunlop after extensive back-to-back testing in the off-season and made a long-term commitment to Dunlop. Coldenhoff (and Duncan) both used Dunlop’s latest Geomax MX-33 tyres. The MX-33 is an intermediate-to-soft terrain tyre and has been proven to have both lasting performance and durability at World Championship level this season.
The traction of the Dunlop Geomax MX33 was underlined with both ‘Holeshots’ (for the fastest start) going to Dunlop riders. Arnaud Tonus took the prize in race 1 on his Wilvo Racing Yamaha and Coldenhoff took the Holeshot in race 2.
