New for 2014 Dunlop have released their next generation of MotoX tyres in the shape of the Geomax MX-32 soft to medium terrain tyres and the Geomax MX-52 medium terrain tyre, replacing the MX-31 and MX-51 in the majority of sizes although a small number still remain.
US based Motocross Action magazine have had their hands on a test pair of the new Geomax MX-52 medium terrain tyres in their July 2014 edition, and it seems that they approve of the latest upgrades from Dunlop!
Dunlop have been developing their new MotoX range on the AMA Pro circuit for the past few years, and the biggest advancement in the latest releases is the new progressive cornering block technology which is found on the rear tyre, which essentially is a knob within a knob for improved slide control and increased cornering grip.
The staggered design of the centre blocks allows the tyre to spread the load more evenly to assist with impact damping and stability, and it’s worth noting that the tyre has designed to be directional so take care when mounting it.
In terms of performance the writer commented that “None of the MXA test riders had any issues. What they liked most about the MX-52 was that there were never any surprises. You always knew what it was going to do. That is unless you took it out of its intended range – as in sand, mud or deep loam. If this is your terrain of choice, opt for an MX-32”.
In terms of durability the test riders expereinced no breaking or cracking of the knobs, with the MX-52 wearing evenly. Summing it up in just one line their verdict was that “you get what you pay for – performance”.
