Unveiled at the end of 2015, the Montesa 4Ride blurs the lines between trials and enduro bikes, creating a real go-anywhere motorcycle that’s ideal for riders of all abilities.
Based on their multiple world-championship winning 4RT, the new Montesa is brimming with the DNA of it’s trials focused cousin, but with a more user friendly design, including a seat for covering longer distances!
Other changes include higher bars and re-positioned footpegs, and a tank range of 70+ miles.
One major change is the suspension, with longer forks making the bike far better suited to faster trails than a pure trials machine, improving the stability without affecting the bike’s trials like agility.
The four-stroke Honda engine gives a smooth delivery of power, and in their 24th February 2016 edition, MCN state that “this engine character, combined with the fully adjustable pro-link suspension and grippy Dunlop D803 GP tyres, finds levels of grip you never thought possible.”
Better still, it keeps the chassis geometry, character and steering lock of a pure trials machine, and can be ridden as such, but you don’t need a van or a trailer to move it around the country to get to the start of your ride. With all the boxes ticked to make it legal on the road, you can move at a brisk pace between one trail and the next on the tarmac. There’s even some under-seat storage if you’re planning on stopping for a picnic halfway round!
The build quality is fantastic, as you’d come to expect from any company wholly owned by Honda, which is reflected in the price at £6,299.
If you want to be a competitive trials rider you’ll still need a proper trials bike, and the same goes for riding enduro, but this bike will give you the very best of both worlds to put a smile on your face day in, day out!
