For the third year in a row, Bridgestone’s flagship Battlax S22 hypersport tyre has been announced as the winner of the industry leading independent test by Motorrad.
What makes this doubly sweet for Bridgestone is that the tyre was also proclaimed as the winner of another highly respected independent test by PS Magazine, also published this month.
The following six tyres were all blind tested on the latest stock YZF-R1:
- Bridgestone Battlax S22
- Continental ContiSportAttack 4
- Dunlop SportSmart TT
- Metzeler Sportec M9RR
- Michelin Power 5
- Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa II
Each tyre was scored on a wide range of factors both on a dry and wet circuit, while the Motorrad test also included a road section.
It’s worth noting that both the SportSmart TT and Diablo Rosso Corsa II are both classed as racing street tyres, which are aimed at a more equal split of both road and track use compared to a hypersport tyre.
Dunlop’s Battlax S22 equivalent would be the SportSmart Mk3, and the Pirelli option would be the new Diablo Rosso IV.
Motorrad Test...
In the Motorrad test, the Bridgestone scored 94 from a possible 100 to finish joint-top of the road test alongside the Michelin Power 5.
On track, however, the Bridgestone was the clear favourite with a score of 95/100 which put it right at the top of the pile, even beating the arguably more track oriented Dunlop and Pirelli entrants.
A strong performance on the wet track saw the Battlax S22 take 278 from a possible 300 points overall to finish clear of the Metzeler and Michelin in joint second.
PS Magazine Test...
In the dry track test carried out by PS Magazine, the Bridgestone was once again the clear winner as it finished 6 points ahead of the second placed Pirelli, while another strong performance on the wet circuit gave the Japanese brand an impressive overall test win with Metzeler in second and Michelin close behind in third.
With three years of back-to-back test wins under it’s belt, it’s easy to see why the Battlax S22 is by far and away our biggest selling premium hypersport tyre right now.
Available in a wide range of sizes and chosen by several leading manufacturers as an original equipment fitment for their latest high performance models, it’s all the tyre your pride and joy will ever need for fast all-weather road and occasional track use.
