Mansfield’s Sherwood motocross track played host to the opening round of the Michelin MX Nationals at the weekend, where there was a strong showing from a number of riders supported by rival tyre maker Bridgestone.
In the MX1 Pro class, the high-flying Elliott Banks-Browne went fastest in practice, but a incident at the first corner of the opening moto put an end to his weekend as he was taken to hospital. In his absence, fellow Bridgestone rider Josh Spinks made a great start to his first season with the brand, as he went 2nd overall behind Harri Kulas. Elliott’s Geartec Husqvarna teammate Luke Burton made a solid start to take 6th heading into Round 2 next month.
Bridgestone dominated the MX2 Pro class, with Crescent Yamaha’s Martin Barr and Honda Adventure Centre’s Josh Gilbert going toe-to-toe at the front of the pack. Defending champion Gilbert would take the opening moto victory, but Barr hit back in the second with a race win of his own, leaving the pair tied on 47 points a piece.
Over at Lower Drayton in Staffordshire, AMCA were also hosting their first meeting of the season.
JSR Racing’s James Dodd got off to a great start with his new team, as he came away with first overall in the Superclass, followed by fellow Bridgestone rider Josh Waterman who went on to take the runners-up spot.
Meanwhile, Team Apex’s Brad Malin was absolutely flying on the KTM 125 as he showed the rest of the Expert field a clean pair of heels. SRH Racing’s Yarin Evans also made a great start to his first year with Bridgestone, as he took 3rd in the Junior Group 1.
Congratulations to all the riders on some fantastic results from the whole team at Cambrian – the official distributor for the Bridgestone motocross range in the UK!
