BMW S1000RR Sport On Sport Touring Tyres

sport touring tyres on BMW S1000RRWith plenty of mileage to cover to ride all the way down to the Fast Bikes “Sports Bike Of The Year 2015” test at Portimao, including a brief diversion to Jerez, deputy editor Benjamin Kubas-Kronin decided to swap his sporty rubber for something which gives both performance and a bit of longevity.

After running Pirelli Supercorsas and Bridgestone Battlax R10s on his long term BMW S1000 RR Sport, Benjamin was a little apprehensive about fitting sport touring tyres, admitting he is not a fan of “heavily treaded” tyres.

For the trip, Benjamin chose the Bridgestone Battlax T30 – the latest 120/70 EVO version on the front, and the standard T30 190 rear on the back. As of yet, the Battlax T30 EVO is not available in a 190 rear, but mixing the older and newer version is absolutely fine. A wider range of sizes is expected in 2016.

Won over by the rubber, Benjamin commented:

“They were bloody excellent. After more than 1,500 miles there was zero profile loss. And when on track, they gripped enough to let me put the bike through its paces.”

Not bad for a sports touring tyres, it’s just a shame that the bike broke down at the start of the test…..
