Kiara Fontanesi was handed her 4th consecutive WMX title on a plate this weekend, after a last minute mechanical issue saw her rival Livia Lancelot fail to start the final moto of the competition.
Fontanesi, riding on the Dunlop Geomax MX-32, needed to overhaul a two point deficit in the final round of the season at Loket, Czech Republic. However, in her first race she dropped a further two points by only managing to finish 3rd.
However, Lancelot then suffered from an unfortunately timed mechanical issue in the sighting lap of the final race, which meant that the Italian had to finish 17th place or higher to take the title. This is the 3rd of her 4 titles taken on the Dunlop brand.
Dunlop will also be hoping for glory in the MX2 title race, with Yamaha’s Valentin Guillod taking his 3rd win of the season, to take him to 2nd in the standings with current leader Herlings out of actions for the rest of the season due to injury. The next round for the men will give him a chance to overhaul the points difference and take the championship lead. Evgeny Bobryshev and Gautier Paulin also went well in the MX1 class, whilst 5 Dunlop riders finished in the top 10 overall.
Eddy Seel, Dunlop MX race coordinator, said: “It has been a weekend of positives. This is how I hoped it to be every weekend this season but it has now all come together and hope it continues. We now have one more title thanks to Kiara with every chance that Valentin could be leading MX2 and Gautier and Bobby are possible top-three finishers for the year.”
