Flying Start To Michelin MX Nationals

Michelin MX NationalsAfter securing a significant sponsorship package from Michelin, the 2015 MX Nationals got underway at Preston Docks with some thrilling racing across all classes.

This year Michelin experts will be on hand at events to offer tyre advice to competitors, and highlight the importance of motocross tyre choice in terms of maximising both performance and safety.

Graeme Irwin, rider with Suzuki’s Heads & All Threads team, welcomed Michelin’s involvement in the nationals.

Talking ahead of the opening round, Graeme said: “A lot of motocross riders still don’t realise how important tyres really are. It doesn’t matter how powerful your bike is, if that power isn’t getting to the ground then it’s a pointless exercise.”

The French manufacturer has been involved with the MX Nationals since its inception, but this latest deal has further strengthened ties between the two organisations.

Ed Wilson, commercial director for two-wheel for Michelin in the UK, Republic of Ireland, Nordics and Russia, said: “The Michelin MX Nationals show how importantly we take the off-road market. We have some exceptional off-road products, with more to come, and the nationals are a great way of showcasing those.

“We also have some exceptional expertise in off-road tyre performance and choice, and we’re really pleased to be able to share that with competitors. It’s surprising how many riders don’t have a good knowledge of compounds and treads – and that’s where we come in.”

The 2015 series also includes the new Michelin Cup – a competition open to any rider, riding on Michelin tyres, in any class.

Ed added: “It’s a great competition because it means the youngest riders can compete directly with the pros. We’re very excited about the Michelin MX Nationals.”
