With Bibendum making a return to MotoGP from 2016, it’s track rubber is once again falling under the spot light. In the October 2014 edition of Fast Bikes magazine, the team take a look at the Michelin Power Cup, available to the UK trade from Cambrian Tyres.
The result of a lot of hard work since the French firm exited MotoGP in 2009, the Power Cup makes use of their unique 2CT technology. The technology means that 37.5% of the front tyre consists of a softer compound, whilst around 35% of the rear consists of the softer compound.
Fast Bikes comment:
“You can get on it after a lap and a bit, meaning they scrub in and warm up a treat. They are capable of some massive lean, thanks to a sharp front profile that can make changes of direction a little slow.”
Does this sharp front profile mean that the Power Cup will struggle with stability under hard braking? Well, Fast Bikes certainly didn’t have any issues thanks to the soft sidewall, and thanks to the superb grip available from the rear tyre, they think “you’ll be needing to turn your TC to almost off to get the best acceleration out of a turn.”
As with any track day tyre, the extremely high levels of grip don’t last forever, but Fast Bikes were more than happy with the feedback they got from the worn rear, so they knew when it was being pushed to it’s limits.
