Last week saw the UK launch of the Avon Storm 3D X-M, which is now available to the UK trade from Cambrian Tyres in a vastly increased range of sizes introduced for 2014.
As the largest UK customer of Avon we were delighted to be invited, and sent one of our sales team experts along to the launch event, and we are running a long term test on the new tyre in partnership with Avon and we look forward to bringing you updates on how the tyre performs as the riding season progresses.
A number of journalists were at Melksham for the launch, which saw riders head through Cheddar Gorge and the first impressions from riders have now been feeding back through with online site Visordown giving their opinion who selected the Triumph Speed Triple R as the rain started spitting and the dark rain clouds appeared overhead.
Very early on test rider Luke Bowler praised the tyres grip and high levels of feedback saying “it really gives you the confidence to throw the bike into corners”.
Avon claim that the quick warm up tomes are thanks to their new 3D sipe technology, which consists of a number of small grooves in the tyre which allow it to flex and also siphon out water in the wet. The 3D sipes provide enough limited flex to generate heat across the tyre, without the tyre overheating.
The quick steering triumph reportedly wasn’t held back by the new Avon tyres, with the soft feeling Storm 3D X-M proving that the days of sport touring tyres being slow to tip in are well behind us.
After around 10 miles of dry riding the testers were caught up in a very heavy storm, and the roads soon became wet and slippery. Visordown were impressed with the performance of the tyre in the wet when not provoked, with great levels of feedback and rider confidence being reported.
The Avon Storm 3D X-M is now available in a range of 16 sizes from Cambrian Tyres to the UK trade, and typical fitments according to Avon include the Suzuki Hayabusa, Honda Blackbird and Kawasaki GTR1400 along with other high-powered sportsbikes and hypertourers.
