In their latest issue top German magazine Motorrad, who are regarded by many in the industry as the experts in motorcycle tyre tests, have been pitting seven leading sport touring tyres against one another in a series of dry and wet tests. The expert test riders at Motorrad have then been scoring the tyres on both tests on aspects such as handling, steering accuracy and performance under braking.
The seven tyres tested all available to the UK trade from Cambrian Tyres were as follows:
- Avon Storm 3D X-M
- Bridgestone Battlax T30
- Continental ContiRoadAttack 2 EVO
- Dunlop Sportmax Roadsmart 2
- Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interact
- Michelin Pilot Road 4
- Pirelli Angel GT
The first test was carried out on dry roads and autobahns, and the ContiRoadAttack 2 EVO came out the clear winner five points clear of its nearest rivals, the Pilot Road 4 and Angel GT. Overall the Continental scored 136/150 in the dry test, with the Motorrad experts praising the neutral handling and steering accuracy, along with the confidence inspiring corner grip.The tyre features all of Continental’s core technologies including Traction Skin, Black Chili compound and Continuous Compound Technology along with a zero degree belt.
The Michelin Pilot Road 4 with it’s X-Sipe technology topped the test on the wet track scoring 94/100, ahead of the Pirelli Angel GT in second place. The Michelin achieved the best wet lap time, and the highest speed of any tyre on the straight and in the corners with it’s inspiring wet weather grip. Again the neutral handling and steering accuracy of the Continental was praised, remaining strong even in wet conditions.
With it’s high score in the wet the Michelin was the overall test winner, narrowly ahead of the ContiRoadAttack 2 EVO and Pirelli Angel GT in joint second place. The Continental was also awarded a ‘Best Buy’ for country road riding. Great results for two of the newest sport touring tyres on the market in the UK!
