German motorcycle specialist Metzeler are the next manufacturer to break cover with a brand new product for 2021, with the announcement of the Tourance Next 2!
Now heading into it’s fourth generation, the Tourance range has been a firm favourite for adventure tourers for many years and the new Tourance Next 2 will no doubt prove popular.
Key areas of improvement over the current Tourance Next include a significant reduction in braking distances, as well as more neutral handling characteristics.
Many sizes benefit from Metzeler’s 0° Steel Radial and Interact technologies, which help to transmit a feeling of safety and control to the rider, also ensuring a neutral, linear handling response.
Longitudinal rear tread grooves are intersected by other pattern elements to improve stability of the tread blocks and ensure more even wear characteristics. This has the benefit of improving mileage yields and line holding on gravel roads.
On the front tyre Metzeler have used an innovative 85% silica compound containing functionalised polymers, which works to enhance stability and grip on wet roads. The multi-compound rear tyre is multi-compound and uses either a Cap & Base construction or the new Hyperbase structure.
The rear construction depends on the tyre size, and Hyperbase sees the centre and shoulder compounds all supported by a full-carbon-black base which improves dynamic and thermal stability.
The central compound is identical to that used on the front tyre with 85% silica, while the shoulder compounds are full-silica and oriented towards performance in wet conditions and grip at lean.
A total of 8 sizes are due to come out next year as follows:
- 150/70 R17 M/C 69V TL – Rear
- 170/60 R17 M/C 72V TL – Rear
- 170/60 R17 M/C 72W TL – Rear
- 150/70 R18 M/C 70V TL – Rear
- 110/80 R19 M/C 59V TL – Front
- 120/70 R19 M/C 60V TL – Front
- 120/70 R19 M/C 60W TL – Front
- 90/90 -21 M/C 54V TL – Front
