VIDEO: Steve Plater On Avon’s 3D Ultra Evo

Avon 3D Ultra Evo

Two time TT winner Steve Plater certainly knows a thing or two about tyres!

On his way to victory in the 2009 Superbike race, he set a sector 4 record on the 6.9 mile stretch to Bungalow of 3m 13:557s which hasn’t been bettered for more than a decade.

Although he retired from road racing in 2011, Steve is still one seriously quick rider, a point that he demonstrated earlier this year when filming with the team at Avon Tyres as he put their new 3D Ultra Evo hypersport tyre through its paces at Almeria Circuit.

Avon 3D Ultra Evo

The 3D Ultra Evo is 100% made in Britain, and builds on the performance of Avon’s previous 3D Ultra Sport.

Avon’s new ‘Evo’ uses the very latest compound technology to offer faster warm up times, along with higher levels of outright grip.

In combination with the tweaked tread pattern and Avon’s unique interlocking 3D Sipes, the new silica rich compound also offers increased levels of performance on wet roads.

Featuring a set of inter-locking teeth, these 3D sipes also help to limit tread flex for better high speed stability, and aid in the evacuation of water when riding in the wet. They are also found on a number of other Avon products.

Despite being a road product, Steve was full of praise for the new Avon after a day on track in Spain, and you can check out how he got on below:
