The sixth round of this year’s delayed MXGP championship took place at the weekend in Italy and the hard pack Monte Coralli circuit near Imola.
With several soft, slippery sections at points around the track riders would need to be able to rely on a versatile tyre to be at the sharp end of the racing!
In the MX1 class it was Dutch rider Jeffrey Herlings who set the pace, coming away witn a double race victory to take home maximum points. Herlings also sealed his ninetieth career GP win, holding off a strong challenge from Jeremy Seewer and Antonio Cairoli who took the other two spots on the podium.
In the MX2 class it was another clean sweep of the podium for Pirelli on home soil as Jago Geerts to the race one win ahead of Maxime Renaux and Mathys Boisrame. In the second moto, Renaux held on for his first ever GP win as Tom Vialle and Jago Geerts did their best to chase him down.
Herlings and Vialle will lead the title fight in their respective classes heading into this week’s Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna which will take place at the same circuit on Wednesday when Pirelli will be hoping for another clean sweep of the podium on their Scorpion MX32.
