House Brands Share Top Honours In Hypersport Test

Best sportsbike tyres 2020

As well as being the UK’s largest independent trade supplier of motorcycle and scooter tyres, Cambrian Tyres are also the main distribution partner for Bridgestone and the sole importer for Continental.

With that in mind, we were ecstatic to learn that two of their latest offerings were awarded a joint win in a leading independent hypersport tyre test carried out by Motorrad Magazin, in conjunction with KTM.

The test saw 7 sets of the very latest hypersport tyres blind tested on a KTM 790 Duke, equipped with the very latest data logging equipment to accurately measure their performance in several areas.

The test itself took place at KTM’s own testing facility, and included both a dry and wet test to evaluate all weather performance.

When it comes to road tyres, we know that it’s always important to look for a tyre that scores consistently well in all areas. A tyre with amazing dry grip is no good to most riders if it can’t perform in the wet for example. Some tyres on test performed exceptionally well several areas, but were let down by a poor score in one or two other key elements.

All tyres were scored on the following criteria:

  • Cold grip
  • Warm Grip
  • Warm Up
  • Handling
  • Feeling on Cornering Limit – Front/Rear
  • Wet
  • Dry Braking
  • Wet Braking
  • Self-Damping/Comfort

The scores for our two house brands were as follows:

Handling810
Feeling on Cornering Limit (Front / Rear)10/1010/10
Wet Grip1010

Self Damping / Comfort67

The consistently high scoring across all key areas saw the Bridgestone and Continental named joint winners ahead of the Avon Storm 3D Ultra, Dunlop SportSmart MK3, Metzeler Sportec M9RR, Michelin Power 5 and Pirelli Diablo Rosso III.

Both proved themselves to be excellent all-round hypersport tyres, in a category which continues to push the boundaries of sporting performance in all weather conditions. It is worth noting that comfort isn’t usually a key factor among riders when deciding on a hypersport tyre, and the only brand to score higher than a 7 was Michelin.
