The most technologically advanced production Ducati in history is coming, and to help those lucky rder who have the chance to experience one harness all that power, Pirelli engineers have developed a special version of their famed Supercorsa tyres.
The Superleggera V4 is the only street-legal motorcycle in the world that has a frame, subframe, swingarm and wheels – the entire load-bearing structure of the chassis – made entirely of carbon fibre.
The 90° V4 engine is capable of delivering up to 234 bhp, and with the bike tipping the scales at 152kg dry, that’s a seriously impressive power-to-weight ratio!
Thanks to the use of biplane wings and other carbon fibre components, the Ducati engineers have ensured the bike is able to guarantee up to 50 kg of downforce, allowing for greater stability and faster acceleration.
As technical partner and exclusive tyre supplier to Ducati, Pirelli worked closely with them during the development of the Superleggera V4 to create a highly innovative tyre to meet the challenging performance target set by Ducati.
We’re now into the third generation of Pirelli’s Diablo Supercorsa SP racing street tyre, which continues to be developed thanks to Pirelli’s constant commitment and experience at the highest levels of international racing, particularly with the World SBK series.
The new Supercorsa SP V3 CE developed for the Superleggera V4 is single compound on the front, a solution which Pirelli say will allow for rapid warm-up and constant grip in any situation.
The rear tyre is dual compound and uses a race compound developed in the FIM Superbike World Championship on the shoulders. The sidewalls on the rear tyre are slightly rounded as a result of the total redesign of carcass and profile which was done with the aim of managing the serious performance that the Superleggera V4 is capable of.
Finally, the sidewalls bear the red Pirelli and Diablo logo as an added custom touch.
