Dunlop have a brand new adventure touring tyre on the market for 2020, and we’ve been putting them to the test for ourselves, right here in Mid Wales!
Shaun from our sales team has had a set of the new Trailmax Meridian fitted to his XTZ1200, which is used as both a daily commuter, and for touring.
Given the current climate, he’s not exactly had the chance to take them on an extended ride, but in the meantime they’ve already proved a reliable all-weather partner for the daily commute.
Dunlop Trailmax Meridian
A replacement to Dunlop's TrailSmart Max, the Meridian claims to offers increased mileage and improved all-weather grip, thanks in part to the revised compound and ice-axe style tread pattern.
Switching from his favoured Bridgestone A41 boots for the purposes of this test, Shaun said:
“The steering feels a little heavier on the Meridians. They handle ok off-road, on loose gravel they haven’t slipped yet. I’ve been up on the pegs riding the harbour road, which is currently covered in sand, speed bumps and all, and I’ve not had any issues.
Haven’t had any problems really with them so far. They are good for commuting and handle the some of our more questionably surfaced Welsh roads just fine. I haven’t pushed them as far as the A41s yet due to the lockdown, plus I’m always panniered up at the moment so I can pick up essentials. There doesn’t seem to be quite as much feedback, but hopefully we’ll see how they hold up to some hard riding soon enough.”
