Sand tyres are big business in Northern Ireland, and essential for riders taking on some of their world renowned circuits including the likes of Desertmartin to the west of Lough Neagh.
One rider who has been putting his to the test this season is Larne’s Glenn McCormick, who left it until the final round of the season to seal the Ulster MX2 Championship.
The UniqueFitout Husqvarna rider, who runs on Michelin’s Starcross 5 range of motocross tyres, went to Desertmartin in pole position for the championship.
Jake Sheridan took the MX2 overall on the day, but despite a couple of crashes McCormick did what he needed to do to secure the title with one moto to spare, which gave him the chance to get out on a 450 for the first time in an Ulster Championship race.

Glenn clearly settled in to the rhythm very quickly on the big bike in that final race, making moves on John Meara and James Mackrel as his Starcross 5 Sand rear tyre provided the necessary grip to take a well deserved moto win, as he made it look easy in the process!
