The Pirelli Angel GT II is the Italian manufacturer’s brand new sport touring tyre, which only hit the UK market in the spring of this year.
A long overdue update to the original and still very well respected Angel GT it offers fitments for tourers, sportsbikes and road going adventure machines.
By re-working the tread pattern, Pirelli engineers have boosted wet weather performance and dual-compound technology on the rear offers a harder wearing central band alongside softer shoulders for increased cornering grip.
RiDE Magazine’s editor Matt Wildee recently tested a set on his Ducati Multistrada 950S long-termer, and after covering more than 1000 miles he updated readers on how they’ve done so far in the magazine’s October issue:
“I’ve been trying the Angel GT IIs on my Ducati Multistrada 950S and that last 1000 miles have shown the tyre to offer impressive grip and feel on the road, in the rain and even on the track – first impressions show them to be an excellent all-rounder.
The tyre is an evolution of the first Angel GT,which I rated thanks to its intuitive steering and good wet-weather grip. The new Angel GT II carries on that tradition with new, dual silica-rich compounds, a revised tread pattern which Pirelli claims is from a racing wet,plus revised profiles.
It all works well too, giving the already nimble Multistrada lighter, more direct steering, lots of feel in the wet and enough grip to even head out in the fast group of a Snetterton road-bike trackday and take some sportsbike scalps.
They imbue the Ducati with a level of confidence to do things that a 230kg adventure bike just shouldn’t be capable of on tarmac.
The only problem is that the OE Scorpion Trail IIs fitted are almost as excellent and offer a modicum of dry-tracked green-laning ability, too. However, the Scorpions do wear heavily – and it’ll be interesting to see how the Angel GT IIs fare over the next few thousand miles. If you stay firmly on tarmac, they seem a sound choice for any bike. Not cheap, though.”
