Avon 3D Ultra Sport Tested

Avon 3D Sport review

In the previous issue of Performance Bikes, John McAvoy and Ben Rea put eight sets of sporty rubber through their paces on the road on a Suzuki GSX-R1000R.

One of the less well known tyres on test was Avon’s 3D Ultra Sport, which was also the oldest design of the eight.

Despite it’s age however, the Avon certainly impressed both riders with it’s performance.

Here’s a few of the comments from their July 2018 issue:

  • Stability – “Good stability at high speed and low, although the rear felt a little harsh when pushing on.” – Ben Rea.
  • Turn-In – “Excellent. Only marked down due to rear feeling a bit vague. 9/10.” – John McAvoy.
  • Mid-Corner – “Bike held the line without too much effort. Front felt like it was digging in well.” – Ben Rea.
  • Exit Grip – “Powering on hard, worked well and hooked up good out of fast sweepers. Slower second-gear corners felt a little loose, but manageable.” – Ben Rea.
  • Feel – “Feel is ok, but slightly masked by the ‘noise’ that comes through the front and the rear.” – John McAvoy.

Overall the Avon scored 79/100, and when summing up Performance Bikes said:

“A strong showing from a brand that lacks the high-level racing experience and exposure of the others, showing well across the board, if not excelling.”

The Avon also offers remarkable value, with a set pair price across the whole range of front and rears for our trade customers in 2018.
