Just two years after returning to premier class racing, tyre maker Bridgestone are celebrating a world championship win alongside the FCC TSR Honda team.
Competing in the FIM Endurance World Championship at Suzuka this weekend, the Japanese squad faced strong competition from several local teams, including several factory backed outfits who throw everything at their home race.
However, a strong performance from Freddy Foray, Alan Techer and Josh Hook saw them finish 5th overall, the highest placed full time team ahead of GMT94 Yamaha who came home in 6th.
That result saw them finish 7 points ahead of their championship rivals, to become the first Japanese squad in history to win the series.
For Bridgestone at Suzuka, it was definitely business as usual.
The tyre maker take their home race just as seriously as the four big Japanese bike brands, and all three teams on the podium, including the Factory Yamaha team who enjoyed their 4th win in a row, ran on Bridgestone race product.
That win for the Yamaha squad, despite stiff competition from Red Bull Honda, ensured that Bridgestone extend their record to 13 wins in a row at the 8 Tai – a formidable run which doesn’t look set to come to an end any time soon.
