RiDE Test Pirelli’s Scorpion Trail II

Pirelli Scorpion Trail II review

Pirelli’s Scorpion Trail II is an ideal tyre for road-going big ADV motorcycles, offering sport touring like performance but with an aggressive look that really suits that style of machine.

RiDE Magazine have been testing a pair on the BMW R1200GS Exclusive, and had this to say in their latest issue:

“My BMW R1200GS Exclusive arrived in April wearing a set of Metzeler Tourance Next tyres.

They impressed, with great grip and feel wet or dry, stable at autobahn speeds, and enough agility and raw stickiness for a trackday at Mallory Park.

After 4,300 miles there was plenty of tread left, but they’d started to square.

I swapped onto Pirelli’s Scorpion Trail 2, wondering what difference there’d be given Pirelli owns Metzeler. The answer: nothing I can perceive.

The Scorpion Trail 2 is every bit as impressive – the GS feels solid, quick-steering and capable in every situation, the tyre a perfect complement for an all-rounder.

The only limitation, as with the Metzelers, is that the only ‘Trail’ riding these are intended for is light, easy, dry by-way bimbling.

The Trail 2 is a three-year-old design, but it’s still one of the best adventure tyres.”
