Based on the World Superbike Superstock & Supersport control tyre, Pirelli’s Diablo Supercorsa SP with it’s iconic lightening bolt tread pattern has undegone something of an upgrade.
Pirelli’s ‘Racing Street’ tyre is ideal for fast road and track day use, and has already been chosen by Ducati as the original equipment tyre on the new Panigale V4 (pictured above) with a unique 200/60 ZR17 rear size.
The 200/60 rear is already widely used in the World Superbike arena, but it will be the first time it has made it’s way into the retail market.
A new profile is 9mm wider on the rear tyre and maximises contact patch size at high angles of lean, with bi-compound technology offering a softer compound at the edge of the tyre for excellent grip in the corners. The front tyre has also been re-designed to ensure that it works in absolute harmony with the big rear hoop, and is 2mm wider than the current version.

Looking closely at the tread pattern, new angles combined with narrower grooves are said to help improve stability and ensure a more uniform pattern of wear.
Pirelli say the result of all these changes is as follows:
- Increased corner speed
- Improved handling for hesitation-free entry into corners
- Higher levels of traction when accelerating out of bends
- Increased sense of safety and control on both road and track
The third generation Supercorsa SP will initially be available as an OE replacement for the new Panigale V4, although further sizes will be added to the range by the Autumn of 2018.
