New Dunlop Tops German Tyre Test

MO Magazine hypersport test Dunlop 2017

Dunlop are claiming victory in a recent hypersport tyre test published by German motorcycle magazine MO, after their new SportSmart 2 Max topped the results ahead of 5 other offerings from big name brands.

MO pitted the Dunlop against the latest offerings from Michelin, Bridgestone, Metzeler, Pirelli and Avon on the latest Honda Fireblade using 120/70 ZR17 fronts and 190/50 ZR17 rears. Continental’s high performance ContiSportAttack 3 was not tested, although it has performed very well in other leading independent tests this year.

“The new SportSmart has become our MO Tip,” commented the testers, who noted that the tyre “doesn’t require a big warm-up phase and works from the start.” They added: “It provides a very stable and reassuring feeling. At the same time, there’s good feedback from front and rear tyres. For sporty riders, it’s definitely the first choice.”

The testers also forecast high durability from the MAX, commenting:

“It has shown the least wear on the race track and also left little rubber on the road. Depending on the motorcycle and riding style, 9000-kilometre durability is predicted.”

Dunlop’s SportSmart 2 Max was launched earlier this year as the official replacement for the SportSmart 2, and combines technologies taken from their endurance racing programme with innovations from the manufacturer’s RoadSmart III sport touring tyre.

The front tyre uses a brand new construction, whilst the rear features a new compound that is able to expand the contact patch for optimal grip in wet and cold conditions.
