Ahead of this weekend’s British GP action, Dunlop have announced their tyre allocation for both Moto 2 and Moto 3 at Silverstone.
Dunlop have stated that the normally cooler and windy conditions at the Northamptonshire circuit have prompted them to select harder rear tyre compounds for their allocation to both classes this weekend.
For Moto 2, there will also be a single Moto2-2 front specification tyre which boasts a large operating window of around 10-35 degrees in terms of ambient temperature. The manufacturer believe that this will cover all eventualities.
This year’s tyre specifications are very similar to those used in 2016. They utilise the No.2 fronts in Moto 2, with several options available for the rear. These are carefully selected by Dunlop’s experienced engineers to cater for the specific demands of various tracks and their surfaces.
Moto3 riders have been using the same specification tyres that were successfully used last year, all of which offer increased durability for the ultra-competitive lightweight class.
An imperious form this season, Franco Morbidelli leads the Moto 2 class with 7 wins thus far. He is being chased down by Thomas Luthi, who has just announced a step up in class to Marc VDS next season. Luthi won last year’s Moto 2 race at Silverstone, and he’ll be hoping for a repeat performance this year.
Also with 7 wins to his name this year, Joan Mir holds a sizable lead over Romano Fenati in Moto 3.
In the Dunlop #ForeverForward Award, Moto 3’s Andrea Migno continues to top the leader board, but his advantage was reduced to just six points after the action at the Red Bull Ring. Rewarding riders for their determination and fightback from adversity, the #ForeverForward top 13 are covered by just 20 points going into round 12, with Moto 2 rider Joe Roberts making up the most places at the Red Bull Ring, coming through from 31st to 10th. Moto 3’s top mover was Albert Arenas, with a 20-place improvement into 12th place. Top movers in Brno were wet-weather expert Khairul Idham Pawi, gaining 14 places in the rain-shortened race, and Moto 3 runner Kaito Toba with 12 places gained.
