Enhancing the performance of the popular SportSmart 2, Dunlop’s new-for-2017 SportSmart 2 Max is the manufacturer’s latest hypersport tyre which is ideal for fast road riding and even the occasional track day foray.
In the August 2017 issue of Performance Bikes magazine, editor Chris Newbigging has given his thoughts on how they’ve performed so far on his MV:
“I’ve fitted them to my MV, as they’re the perfect fitment for mostly road and occasional track use. So far, they’re good – they warm up nicely and are plenty grippy enough, including on track at the sort of pace I’m prepared to go on ageing suspension.
They’re nice and stable, too – a big lump like me on a compact bike can easily get into wobbles, but the profile is nice and progressive. I haven’t had a chance to try them in the wet yet.
If I was to pick a fault with a tyre that technically hasn’t put a foot wrong, it’s that they lack a bit of feel and don’t add anything to the handling; they’re doing the job fine, but they lack that little bit of extra dynamism and feedback that makes the difference between good tyres, and your favourite tyres.”
One of the key changes between the outgoing SportSmart 2 and the new ‘Max’ is the re-designed front profile.
Dunlop listened to the feedback they had from riders, and they have given the front tyre a more defined edge where it meets the sidewall to increase confidence when leaning over in the corners.
